These burger buns saved my buns this past weekend (see what I did there?), all I wanted was to spend the entire day in my pjs and not run to the store to get buns for supper. I love that I made these in my stand mixer, I love that the dough takes minutes to come together and more importantly I love how these taste!!!
This recipe yields 8 burger buns, I topped mine with mixed seeds but you could use anything you have on hand or just brush them with butter they taste fantastic either way.
Here is the recipe!
Ingredients
3/4 to 1 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
1 large egg, beaten
3 1/2 cups bread flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon instant yeast
Toppings
3 tablespoons melted butter or egg wash and mixed seeds of choice.
Method
1. Mix and knead all of the dough ingredients by hand or mixer to make a soft, smooth dough.
2. Cover the dough, and let it rise for 1 to 2 hours, or until it’s nearly doubled in size.
3. Gently deflate the dough, and divide it into 8 pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball. Place the buns on a lightly greased or baking paper lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for about an hour, until puffy. Brush the buns with about half of the melted butter and top with seeds (optional).
4. Bake the buns in a preheated 190°C oven for 15 to 18 minutes, until golden. Remove them from the oven, and brush with the remaining melted butter. This will give the buns a satiny, buttery crust. Cool the buns on a rack.
