Homemade Russian Dressing

Ingredients

½ cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp prepared horseradish (or 2 tsp if you prefer it mild)

1 tbsp finely chopped gherkins or dill pickles

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

½ tsp smoked paprika (optional but adds depth)

1 tsp lemon juice or white vinegar

Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, and horseradish until smooth. Stir in the chopped pickles, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and lemon juice. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Chill for 15–20 minutes before serving for the flavours to meld.

Reuben Hot Dog Assembly

You’ll need:

Toasted hot dog rolls or brioche buns

Cooked frankfurters (grilled or pan-seared)

Sauerkraut, warmed and drained

Slices of Swiss cheese

Russian dressing (above)

To assemble:

Add a layer sauerkraut on the inside of each bun. Top with the the grilled Frankfurter. Top generously with Russian dressing. Lay a slice of Swiss cheese over the top and lightly torch or grill until melted and bubbly.Drizzle with more Russian dressing before serving.
